Goal Hanger Films, the indie established last year by Gary Lineker and former ITV Sport controller,Tony Pastor, has begun producing live shows for digital sport service Breathe Sport.
The indie has extended an on-demand content deal with Breathe to produce the debates, which will live-stream on its website, app and YouTube channel.
It launched at the beginning of May, with it’s first show featuring a 2014/15 Football Season Review with insight from Gary Lineker, Robbie Savage, Ian Wright and Phil Neville, while the 2015 Ashes Preview included former cricketers Michael Vaughan, Kevin Pietersen, Darren Gough and Marcus North.
A rugby show is planned to run ahead of the World Cup in September, while boxing and further football debates are also in the diary.
The shows, along with short-form edits of some of the key moments, such as Gary Lineker – Messi or Maradona?, have notched up over 350,000 views since they first streamed back in May.
Pastor, who produced BBC1 documentary Gary Lineker on the Road to FA Cup Glory and ITV’s Keane and Viera – Best Of Enemies, said producing content for online distribution was a much more “democratised” process.
“Trying to get a documentary away with a traditional broadcaster is not a straightforward process. There is a relatively small pipe,” he said. “But online so long as you keep a tight lid on costs you don’t have to worry about a commissioner and are able to produce what you think will be popular or editorially relevant.”
He added that securing top name talent was important to drive traffic. Pastor worked with OB company Karma on the live streams, which involved a production team of three.
Streaming Tank is looking forward to working on a lot more events later in the year.
