Streaming Tank are streaming a live discussion on AIDS between Washington and Nairobi as part of World AIDS day 2011

Streaming Tank is doing their bit for World Aids Day (Thursday 1st December) by live streaming a discussion and debate concerning the issues raised in smash-hit MTV drama ‘Shuga’.  What is more remarkable about this live conversation is the fact that it is taking place from two cities on entirely separate continents in the aim of creating a global dialogue on these important subjects.

Tune into the MTVShuga.com web page ‘Shuga Talks’ at 10am EST / 6pm EAT (3pm GMT) to take part in the live conversation which will be streamed simultaneously from Washing DC in America and Nairobi, Kenya.  Discussion will inevitably also include how we ensure that the upcoming generation of young people in the world are informed of the dangers of risky sexual behaviour and the spread of AIDS as a global disease.

Set in Nairobi, Kenya, Shuga is a hard hitting drama series that follows the lives, loves and ambitions of a group of young people whose bright lives are balanced on a knife edge due to their love of living dangerously.  This makes the programme the perfect centre point for these important live stream discussions as it not only highlights problems that affect us all globally but the target audience is in the very age group which is affected most by the spread of AIDS as a disease.

Here are a few facts about HIV and AIDS as highlighted on the MTVShuga Website:

·       Nearly half of all new HIV infections are among people aged 15-24

·       Globally AIDS is the second most common cause of death among 20-24  year olds

·        9 out of 10 people infected don't know that they are carrying the HIV virus

 ·       16.6 million children aged 0 - 17 have lost their parents due to HIV

·        Every 16 seconds, someone dies of AIDS

These facts are just a few of the horrifying statistics that show why all of us, young or old, irrespective of where we live in the world should get involved in the debates and discussions such as the live stream which will be taking place on the MTVShuga website today.
