Live Video Streaming from Sonisphere Festival - Knebworth
10.07.2011
The Sonisphere Festival has teamed up with Streaming Tank to live video stream artists such as Motorhead, Slipknot, Parkway Drive, Mastodon, and Opeth from legendry Knebworth.

Stuart Galbraith, Festival Producer said“This is the first time Sonisphere Festival has been transmitted live across the web and represents yet another major stride in its commitment to harnessing the power of the internet to engage with the rock audience at large across the planet. Given that this is going to be such an important event for Slipknot fans the world over, we felt it only right to allow them all to share in what is set to be a historic experience, wherever they are.” To tune in click to http://www.sonispherefestivals.com/tv The main sponsor for the live stream is BT. They have also supplied a satellite truck to transmit the audio and video from both main stages at Knebworth to BT Tower in central London. Video production from the stages is by Blink TV (who are doing a fantastic job, and making Streaming Tanks life a breeze). Blink are mixing the feed for Streaming Tank. Chris Dabbs, Group Account Director for Streaming Tank is based at the festival to work alongside the festival organisers, Blink TV, and BT. Over at BT Tower, the feed is being received and fed to the Streaming Tank team based in the Tower. The Streaming Tank encoding team, headed up by George Blunden and Rex Nye will be encoding all the streams not only to the main Sonisphere site but also separate feeds to each labels and artists sites. This includes separate countdown control onto each site, ensuring that only each artists live streaming feeds can be seen on the artists website.
Most artists have given permission to be streamed. All artists that have given permission will be streamed up to the main site. Chris Dabbs said about the Sonisphere Festival Live Stream:
“Working with Kilimanjaro and AEG on the Sonisphere Festival is an extremely exciting prospect for us. Streaming Tank have had huge experience within the music and festival industries, but this is the first time we have worked alongside the Sonisphere organisers - Kilimanjaro. The Sonisphere Festival is the world’s largest touring festival with some of the biggest names on the circuit involved. This opens huge opportunities for both Streaming Tank and Kilimanjaro. The Sonisphere site alone has over 6 million unique visitors a year making it Europes largest visited rock site. This pushes the digital opportunities around the festival to new heights. It has also been a pleasure working with all of the other parties involved in the stream, especially the organisers themselves, Blink TV, Event Geeks and BT”.

Radio Soulwax App Video Transcoding & delivery
04.07.2011
DJ Due, David and Stephan Dewaele, AKA 2ManyDJs and Soulwax, have launched a new video app that has jumped to the top of the iTunes app list and immediately generated a huge number of hits.
Along with the app, a video enabled website has been created.Streaming Tank were asked by Live Nation to look after all of the video transcoding and content delivery for both platforms. The app is available for use on the iPad and IPhone contains six hour-long visuals. They will then add a new hour-long set to the app each week, until users of the app will have a 24-hour musical extravaganza available for their listening and viewing pleasure. The visual element of the hour-long shows are based around album covers, which are manipulated and animated in variety of ways, by a number of different directors and animators. The resulting films are witty and eminently watchable with the films integral to the music, rather than just an accompaniment. The film and music come together to create a particular experience. Describing the project on the website and app, 2manydjs says "we've tried to come up with something different, a new way to share music we love with you. Music is everywhere and everyone has the tools to be a musician and be a DJ, but for us as music lovers, that hasn't necessarily resulted in an equally massive explosion of mindblowing new music, so we have decided to go back to all the great little gems we have found over the years, basically a free trip through our ever-expanding record collection." Streaming Tank have been working on the project for several months.
Each hour has been encoded into flash, iOS, and download to iOS. This has been a hugely challenging project as each video has needed very specific transcoding methods due to the complexity of the video along with the original file size aspect ratios and the number of outputs required. However like all campaigns, Streaming Tank has successfully raised to the challenge.
