Video streaming specialists get behind Astley's MTV award

Live video streaming and web TV specialists, Streaming Tank are getting behind Rick Astley, following the news that the one-time 80’s pop sensation has been nominated for a prestigious music award.

Astley has recently enjoyed a revival thanks to a viral internet trend known as rickrolling, a popular internet prank which has duped an estimated 25 million web users into watching the singer’s 1987 hit ‘Never gonna give you up’ on video streaming sites.

So popular has this phenomenon become, that Astley has been nominated for the accolade of ‘Best Act Ever’ at the forthcoming MTV music awards, alongside artists such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguillera and U2.

The 42 year old, who has not had a chart hit for over 20 years recently told the LA Times:

"I think it's just one of those odd things where something gets picked up and people run with it. That's what's brilliant about the internet."

Streaming Tank Director James Wilkinson had this to say: “We think it’s great that Rick has been nominated for this award. It demonstrates the power of Web TV and viral video.

“The exposure that he has gained from rickrolling has been phenomenal and it is something that many artists would love to achieve.”

Streaming Tank specialises in webcasting and media streaming and have worked with a host of artists, including Genesis and The Who.
