How Streaming Tank helped R/GA stream a Rihanna event live to mobile & onto a Nokia website in November 2009
It was one of the biggest free music events of the year on the 16th November 2009. International pop sensation, Rihanna – most famous for her song about an umbrella, performed tracks from her new album, Rated R, live to a global online audience from a secret London location.
Why was the event so huge you might ask? Well, Streaming tank were asked by the full‐service interactive & digital advertising agency R/GA (http://www.rga.com/) to stream the Rihanna event to both Nokia mobile phones and onto a website they had specially set up for their association with the pop star (http://origin.nowplaying.nokia.com/join‐us/).
Nokia used the event and live online broadcast to launch their new X6 model that comes with a music edition.
Commenting on the live stream, James Wilkinson a director at Streaming Tank said;
“What made this a different event is that viewers were able to select the camera they wanted to watch. It gave them so much more control on how they viewed and experienced Rihanna’s performance. This was definitely a first”.
