Overview
For the second season in a row, Streaming Tank were brought in to work alongside Topshop to live video stream their catwalk shows at London Fashion Week in February.
Broadcasting live from Old Billingsgate in London, Streaming Tank implemented the live video streaming logistics, vision mix and site build to enable seven catwalk shows to be streamed live and online by a worldwide audience.
Solution
Streaming Tank worked closely with Topshop's Online Production and Digital Marketing teams to implement the development of a live and on-demand video portal, providing Topshop fans with a specific location to view live and on-demand content produced during the week.
The website was dynamically updated as live shows started or new content was added. Incorporated in the site was a Facebook comment widget, as well as the Topshop blog.
The Facebook comment widget was developed to enable viewers to post comments specific to live shows. When a recording of a show was uploaded to the site, the comments posted during the live show would then also be automatically associated with the on-demand content once more. This helped create a realistic representation of viewers reactions during the live show, which could be experienced time and time again.
For the live streaming logistics, Streaming Tank utilised its reliable hardware encoding solutions to encode multiple qualities of primary and back up streams from the location. An online transcoder farm was also used to encode edited show content and additional content added to the website through each day.
Result
Topshop's London Fashion Week shows were once again broadcast live and online to a worldwide audience of fashion fanatics.
Thousands of people tuned into watch the live shows and many posted comments during the live broadcasts.
Despite the website having been created specifically for the live events in February, its success has ensured that the site and content will remain available until September, when Topshop's designers will take to the runway once more.
