Samsung - The Last Call
Project Objectives
Working alongside Remedy Productions and Lean Mean Fighting Machine, Streaming Tank streamed a 24 hour dance off live from Matter nighclub at the O2. The 24-hour silent disco was staged as part of the launch of the Samsung BEAT Edition DJ music phone campaign, where 100 contestants from all over Europe competed for a prize of 10,000 Euro to take Swedish singer September out to dinner, and pocket the rest.
Solution
Streaming Tank are no strangers to 24hr live broadcasts, and have built a reputation for providing the stability and resources to enable endurance events to be streamed live and online.
To prevent the stream from going down during the 24hr period, the live content was encoded using specially built hardware encoders. A duel encoding process was also used as multiple sets of streams were processed using separate primary and backup encoders.
Streaming Tank's duel encoding technology broadcasts identical primary and backup streams simultaneously, optimising roll-over failsafe technology in the event that an encoder should fail.
Result
Streaming Tank's hardware encoding technology enabled a continuous live video stream to be broadcast to a worldwide audience for 24 hours.
The competition utilised live video streaming technology and the worldwide reach of the internet to create a viral and interactive environment for the campaign. A website was created for the campaign, along with desktop widgets and embeddable players which could be downloaded from the website. Online viewers were also given the power to vote off contestants, as 3 randomly picked contestants were put up for eviction every hour.
