TEDx

Project Objectives

TED is a non-profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck and Gordon Brown.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share the TED experience. The Observer newspaper brought in Streaming Tank to help enable the video production, vision mixing and editing of the event.

Alongside this, the event was live streamed to locations around the United Kingdom and United States.

A number of non UK locations needed to view the live broadcast at a later time due to time differences.

Solution

Streaming Tank used the remote cameras at the venue but handled the vision mixing and video control.

Streaming Tank recorded the broadcast for editing after the event as well as splitting up the audio and video signal into hardware encoders.

Hardware encoders encoded at multiple qualities for live broadcasting and also for on-demand.  The live broadcast was then sent via the in-house internet connection to the content delivery network and then onto a Streaming Tank player with adaptive bandwidth detection.

Off-line records were also made of each season.  These where then uploaded to the network as soon as each session ended.

A separate on-demand player was created with a play list.  This was then used by the locations that required to view the broadcast at a later time.  This meant that they could not only seamlessly watch each season but also avoided all breaks between speakers.

After the event, each session was edited along with straplines etc and uploaded onto the relevant platforms.

Successful production, editing, encoding and transcoding as well as logistical delivery over the event.
