Coca-Cola 125 Anniversary Concert
Project Overview
To celebrate 125 years of sharing happiness, Coca-Cola hosted a star studded concert as a live “thank you” to people around the world. The concert was held in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, next to Coca-Cola world and headquarters.
Once again, Coke brought in the live streaming services of Streaming Tank to stream the event, with integration through social media including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, as well as the main Coca-Cola website.
Acts included Grammy award-winning singer and American Idol season one winner Kelly Clarkson, K’NAAN (who sang “Wavin’ Flag”, the Coca-Cola anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup), One Night Only, Natasha Bedingfield and R&B artist Ne-Yo. The event was hosted by Ryan Seacrest.
A great deal of pre-event management and set up was required as Streaming Tank working closely with Coca-Cola and its digital and promotional teams, as well as liasing between server and CDN management, on top of fibre connections on the ground.
During the event, the live stream needed to be sent to all target locations on all platforms, including high quality Flash and iOS (iPhone and iPad) streaming.
Solution
Prior to the event, Streaming Tank liased with all teams involved, organising feeds, internet connectivity, multiple players for each platform, global content management, and technical resources. Streaming Tank also set up the servers and staging servers for the event, along with local staging servers for iOS iPhone/iPad streaming.
Streaming Tank set up camp in a production cabin behind the main stage. Fibre links where provided from the main Coca-Cola headquarters to the Streaming Tank hub, where negotiation with the Coca-Cola firewalls was managed.
The audio and video feeds were sent to the Streaming Tank teams on the ground from the production teams looking after the stage screens and concert audio.
Streaming Tank used multiple hardware encoders to stream multiple qualities of primary and backup streams for both Flash and iOS users. This was monitored throughout the event to ensure a high level of audio and video quality. Also during the event, continuous server load testing was performed to ensure 100% uptime for the global audience.
Result
The event was a huge success with a massive audience in 135 countries. Another historic event for Streaming Tank and Coca-Cola was streamed live without a hitch in Flash to the Coca-Cola main site, Facebook, and YouTube as well as iPad and iPhone devices.
