British Fashion Council

Overview

At London Fashion Week in February 2010, the British Fashion Council launched its Digital Schedule, an initiative intended to fuse fashion with film. Since its inception, Streaming Tank have been working alongside the British Fashion Council facilitating the live streaming of every catwalk from the offical BFC showcase tent, and have since been working with the Council to further develop and better the offering year on year.

Solution

Streaming Tank have been camped out at Somerset House in London for the past two seasons, streaming live content from the official BFC Showcase tent, live and online.

A website was created for the live content (www.londonfashionweeklive.co.uk), which incorporated a dynamic daily schedule and viewer chat application.

Streaming Tank used primary and back up hardware encoders to encode content produced by In_Digital, onsite and in real time.

Real-time communication technology (Mission 2.0) developed by Streaming Tank was used to control the live content. Catwalk shows are renownded for being delayed and so we had to develop a technology that would enable us to dynamically control and update each viewers player. This included managing countdown and player overlay information, live and on-demand content, and mixing between live content incoporated from additional providers around London.

Streaming Tank also devised a method that enabled each designer the opportunity to embed the live content from their show directly into their own website.

Result

The British Fashion Council was formed to showcase British designers and maintain a position as one of the 'Big Four' fashion weeks within the international fashion arena. Live video streaming has enabled the Council to open its doors to a global audience of fashion enthusiasts.

Since the Digital Schedule was launched, over 70 British designer catwalk shows have been broadcast live and online, viewed by thousands of people from all over the world.
