Ballantines Golf Tournament
Overview
Streaming Tank was asked by Agency – Carter London to handle the live streaming for the Ballantine’s Golf tournament at the Blackstone Golf club, in the Icheon province in South Korea.
Carter London handled all the web development while the audio and video was handled by the South Korean television channel.
Streaming Tank handled the live streaming, distribution through the content delivery networks, and Geo-location blocking to ensure that only viewers in South Korea could watch the broadcast, apart from a selected few viewers around the world.
Solution
All Geo-location blocking was handled by Streaming Tanks advanced viewer controlling mechanisms. A number of specialist servers where placed to insure an uninterrupted feed to those who were allowed to view the content. Each request for the stream was passed through these servers to except or deny access before the stream request was passed through to the content delivery network.
Additional security was placed within the system to ensure that the streaming players could not be grabbed and placed onto other sites, either within or outside the South Korean territory.
Encoding was in Flash using the H264 and AAC codecs in multiple qualities and with primary and backup encoders.
Content Delivery was through bandwidth provided by Akamai through Streaming Tank. This enabled the stream to be securely passed delivered through 78,000 servers.
All streams were tested prior to the event day and it was decided by the broadcaster to run a duplicate of what was being broadcast on the Korean golf channel onto the website.
Result
A successfully live streamed event with Geo-blocking and exceptionally high quality of video all encoded qualities.
